Number of daily reported COVID-19 cases in Kane County continues to grow

KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Thursday reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is now 295. The death was a woman in her 70s.

The total number of cases in the county is now 8,964. There were 64 new cases reported Wednesday and 38 new cases reported Tuesday.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen four days of positivity increases and three days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate remained flat at 4.5%. Currently 35% of medical/surgical beds are available and 49% of ICU beds.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. The World Health Organization has said that in countries that have conducted extensive testing for COVID-19, the positivity rate should remain at 5% or lower for at least 14 days.

Health officials reported 1,772 new cases and 18 deaths statewide on Thursday, which is the highest number of daily reported cases since May 24, and 18 new deaths. Illinois now has a total of 176,896 cases statewide, including 7,478 deaths. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 22 – July 29 remained flat at 3.8%, but the daily positivity rate rose to 4.3% Thursday.
