Plans moving forward to locate dog care facility on St. Charles' west side

PetSuites plans to offer a variety of services, including overnight boarding, daycare, grooming and training.

ST. CHARLES – Plans are moving ahead for a dog care facility to locate on the city's west side.

The St. Charles City Council's Planning and Development Committee is set to review the proposal at Its Aug. 10 meeting. During their July 21 meeting, plan commissioners recommended approval of the plans subject to resolution of staff comments.

The property is located on the north side of West Main Street at the intersection of Campton Hills Road. It is part of the Pine Ridge Park planned use development and would be located just west of the proposed Advanced Care Medical building that was approved by the St. Charles City Council in April.

The applicant, Charlie Haapala, of Beta Equity Investments, has applied for a special use to add pet care facility as a special use in the PUD. Outdoor play areas are proposed on the north and west sides of the proposed single-story,11,085 square-foot building.

A seven-foot high solid fence is proposed around all the outdoor exercise areas. PetSuites plans to offer a variety of services, including overnight boarding, daycare, grooming and training. The facility would provide boarding for both dogs and cats.

City staff made several recommendations, including that an internal sidewalk be added from the Main Street sidewalk to the building entrance. Staff also offered comments about the proposed landscaping plans, building architecture, signage and lighting.
