McNally's in downtown St. Charles is everything you'd want in a traditional Irish pub. It's a cozy place in the center of town to toast with friends and family over a draft of Guinness and corned beef and cabbage, or other longtime Irish favorites.
Maurice McNally first opened the original McNally's in 1998 in the space now occupied by The Office. It moved down the street to 109 W. Main St. in 2010, and after briefly changing owners in 2014 and operating as Valley Lodge Tavern, the pub reopened as McNally's in February 2016.
We tried it out on a warm summer evening with two other friends. We opted to get our meals to go, but while I briefly waited by the bar for my order, I could not help but appreciate the atmosphere – dark paneling adorned with framed Irish soccer jerseys, a friendly bar area and what appeared to be a bustling plaza courtyard out back.
Live music has returned, along with weekend breakfast.
