September Batavia Park District Dish: Halloween Happenings

It’s about to get spooky in Batavia. Halloween is just around the corner, and Batavia Park District is serving up some Halloween fun for the whole family.

Halloween Drive-In Movie: Hocus Pocus

The Sanderson sisters are coming to Batavia! Get in the Halloween spirit with a special showing of Hocus Pocus. Come little children (and parents!) for this PG-rated drive-in movie event on Saturday, Oct. 3. The movie will begin at 7 p.m., and cars can begin entering at 6:30 p.m. at West Main Community Park, located at 40W101 W. Main St., Batavia. Cost is $20 per car, and pre-registration is required. Cars will be safely social-distanced. To listen to the movie, you’ll need to bring a personal radio or download a radio app on your mobile device. Space is limited, so save your spot today at bataviaparks.org.

A Nightmare at West Main

Batavia Park District is taking it to the trails this year with a haunted hike at West Main Community Park. Evil lurks in the forest, so enter if you dare! This scary two-day event is Friday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Oct. 23. Time slots for this Halloween hike are every half hour from 7–9 p.m. Reserve a time slot today at bataviaparks.org! Pre-registration is required, and tickets are $10 per person. Every person needs to register to participate. Recommended ages are 10 and up.

Rather spook than be spooked? We need volunteers to get into their scariest costume and help us make the trails extra frightening. For more about volunteering, please contact Bethanne Guidarelli at bethanneg@bataviaparks.org or 630-406-5282, ext. 2066.

Halloween House Decorating Contest

Worried about your Halloween costume? Dress up your house instead! Make your house extra scary this year for the Halloween House Decorating Contest. Prizes will be awarded for overall theme and people's choice. All displays will be judged on Wednesday, Oct. 21 between 5–9 p.m. Winners will receive a Batavia Park District prize package. This contest is only $5 to participate and for Batavia Park District residents only. Addresses of all entries will be published in local media unless specified at the time of registration. You may indicate if you want your decorations viewed at dusk or dark. Register your house by Oct. 19 at bataviaparks.org.

Trick or Treat Yourself

You don’t have to go far for Halloween treats. We’ll bring them to your front yard! Surprise your family with a Halloween-inspired candy hunt right at home. Our Batavia Park District staff will personally deliver your Halloween treats on Friday, Oct. 30 and distribute them in your front yard for your family to find. Once we’re gone, just say go and do the trick-or-treater dash for those ghostly goodies. Cost is $15 for one drop per household, with the option to buy additional drops for even more treats! Assorted candy and snacks will be safely bagged inside plastic pumpkins. Sign up now at bataviaparks.org.

Pre-registration is required at bataviaparks.org for these special events. For Batavia Park District’s full calendar of events, please visit bataviaparks.org/calendar.
