A preliminary investigation found that the bicyclist was riding southbound near the shoulder of the road and was illuminated with rear- and forward- facing lights, the release stated. The vehicle came up behind the victim and sideswiped him.

The only description of the vehicle is a black or gray SUV, which is believed to have damage to the rear passenger taillight.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Batavia Police Department at 630-454-2500.
