KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Sunday reported 143 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a man in his 70s.
That is a decrease from the 166 new cases reported on Saturday. The total number of cases in the county is now 15,234. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 341.
The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases – meeting one criteria for stricter mitigation measures – and five days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased from 7.9% to 8.4%. Currently, 30% of medical/surgical beds and 41% of ICU beds are available.
The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state's 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.
Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average jumped nearly a full percentage point once again and is now 10.7%. The Kane/DuPage region hit the state's fail-safe of 8% positive in its seven-day rolling average. If the positivity rate stays above 8% for two more consecutive days, the region will be subject to enhanced mitigations, which have included closing indoor dining and bar service.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,245 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths Sunday. Illinois now has seen 344,048 total cases of the virus, and 9,214 people have died.
