KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Monday reported 188 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

That is an increase from the 143 new cases reported on Sunday. The total number of cases in the county is now 15,422. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 341.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases – meeting one criteria for stricter mitigation measures – and five days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased from 8.4% to 8.5%. Currently, 31% of medical/surgical beds and 44% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average increased from 10.7% to 10.9%.

The Kane/DuPage region hit the state's fail-safe of 8% positive in its seven-day rolling average for the second day in a row. If the positivity rate stays above 8% on Tuesday, the region will be subject to enhanced mitigations, which have included closing indoor dining and bar service.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state's 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,113 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths Monday. Illinois now has seen 347,161 total cases of the virus, and 9,236 people have died.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate rose from 5.2% to 5.4%. The state received the results of 48,684 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Monday afternoon.
