Shoppers pass $925 in 58 counterfeit bills at Sugar Grove Walgreens

Two women bought gift cards, small items with funny money

SUGAR GROVE – Two women passed $925 in 58 counterfeit bills at Jewel-Osco, 465 N. Sugar Grove Parkway, Aug 14, according to police reports released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The two women bought multiple gift cards and various small items.

One of the women was talkative with the cashier while the other woman had the cash in a backpack, the report stated.

The cashier became suspicious because they wanted the items broken up into several transactions, and tried to delay them, the report stated.

The women walked outside but avoided going to their vehicle until they were told the police had been called; then they left through the south exit onto west Galena Boulevard, the report stated.

Police removed all the counterfeit money from the cash register. Denominations of the 58 bills were 13 $5 dollar bills, four $10 dollar bills and 41 $20 dollar bills.

Various bills had the same serial number, the report stated.

The women were both Black and one was possibly pregnant, the report stated.
